Firehouse News
From the Bloomingdale Listserv: Firehouse News from Brian Brown: ``Signed the lease with the restaurant/lounge operator for the firehouse`` See this 6/5/2010 message from Brian Brown: The firehouse restaurant is moving forward. We also have realized that the only way that we will get the bars and restaurants we want in the neighborhood is to create them just as Big Bear was created. As a result we also are working with three other operators who wish to open restaurants and/or pubs along North Capitol Street. Two of them have already identified sites and are negotiating the terms of the leases with the landlord. A couple of the restaurant operators are looking for investors to round out their contribution in order to have sufficient capital to operate. If there are any community members who have an interest in this type of business and are interested potentially in investing in such a concept, they should contact me directly. I will be holding a meeting in the next few weeks to facilitate those introductions. Brian Brown Bbrown @ nextgenproperty.com

I wish them luck, but the recent fiasco over a Big Bear liquor license will make investors and restauranteurs think twice about opening a restaurant in Bloomingdale. The ability to sell beer, wine, and cocktails is key to a restaurant's financial viability.
If ANC5C listens to four opponents over forty supporters, as it did for Big Bear, how can an investor be assured that ANC5C won't cause even more unreasonable, anti-business opposition and headaches for other aspiring restauranteurs?
I know I wouldn't have thought it would be so hard for them! Is it a fiasco though? Maybe if they can manage to somehow get the license, the process will become easier for others.
The whole Big Bear situation has been awfully dramatic though, you're right about that.
