Eatwell DC in Bloomingdale?

So I've heard rumblings of Eatwell DC considering opening a
restaurant in the Bloomingdale area...

Nothing definite...just a whisper, really.

But the beginning of something developing.

Their restaurants are Grillfish in West End, The Heights in Columbia Heights, Logan Tavern, and Commissary in the Logan Circle area.

They're a great casual dining chain that I think would be a perfect fit for Bloomingdale. Does anyone know of good spaces for them to look at?

God I just want something to open up around here that will feed me on a tri-weekly basis!

Any word on the progress of Rustik Tavern?

Please open! Bloomingdale is screaming and wailing for a restaurant!

Introduction of Author/Collaborator

Allow me to introduce myself.

I am someone who has walked the streets of Bloomingdale for the past 4 years with angst. You never really know what to expect around here. Every day is a new trial and test of courage.

I don't always feel safe around here but I live here and take it all in, the good and the bad.

I hope to get people talking about Bloomingdale.

I'll be talking about everything around here...the people, the businesses, the swamplike creatures that surface nocturnally in my alley, the flowers that bloom and die within a week...

...the park, the yoga, the liquor stores, the pool, the postal service ...

I'm not always right so please call me out on anything you might find to be inaccurate. I appreciate comments and interaction.

Web Design and layout by my sister, Aimee Elmer. She lives in Reston, but has been frequenting Bloomingdale for the past 3 1/2 years.

She also designs jewelry and will be showcasing her work at times too.

We like taking stylized photos around Bloomingdale and the surrounding areas.

I like to think of this neighborhood as a little bit of light and a little bit of dark.

A little riddle I try fruitlessly to figure out every day.

So check us out! Read the blog! Comment! Email me if you are interested in collaborating or posting events/ photos/ neighborhood information.

And thus we give you...Good Morning Bloomingdale

The Black Squirrels

These little gremlins have got tenacity, no?

And a high octave vocal range?

And apparently a highly developed balance since the only time I ever see them is running across the power lines in my alley. Or lost, searching desperately for the way back into the alley.

For some reason, they seem smarter than the cats that inhabit the space below the power lines.

I think the black squirrels might be shrewder. And possibly better looking.

I couldn't tell you where they reside. My guess would be in one of the abandoned houses.

And they keep a pretty low profile really. You only really catch glimpses of them if you live here. They live in my alley. And probably other peoples' alleys around this most gracious and welcoming district of BLOOMINGDALE.

I wonder sometimes...

Are they black from lack of sun or is it just genetics that makes them that color?

Is their color the result of a long process by which it darkened because of lack of nutrients?

Or a chemical abnormality because of exposure to latant BORF fumes?

I watched one perch on the top beam of my neighbor's porch the other day and listened to it squawk for about ten minutes. TEN minutes! And it was so loud I swear you could have heard it from all four corners of the alley. A painfully shrill sound it was. It seemed to hit a part of my ear drum that wasn't responding well to the sound.

That little firecracker wanted to be heard!

But I was walking through Mt. Vernon Square the other day and saw a mutant breed: black with brown spots!

And I just thought to myself....thank god I don't live in this crazy part of town. Those little fuckers are ugly!
